We're informed that Joe Bell passed away due to a heart attack in Sept 2007. Joe was in Terminal M030. Condolences to his family.

The past two Reunions have been great. So, we're doing it again. This time we're getting together at a place very familiar to a lot of us.... a bit of nostalgia for the oldtimers. Over the years, many happy hours and company functions were held at Cuisine's, so it's the perfect place for the Reunion this year.

8/31/2006 Honoring DeWaine Stone (Toledo, OH)
Hello,
I'm not an employee, but I am the son of one. My Dad started working for Matlack in the mid sixties, and drove for them all of his life. My Dad wanted to be an electrical engineer at that time, and he was most of the way through his college at the University of Toledo here in Toledo, Ohio. But he started a family too early, and he had to drop out of college to get a job right away. That job was with Matlack as a driver.
He drove for the Company for over 40 years till retirement. When I was a small child, I remember he used to get awards, plaques and all kinds of rewards for perfect driving records...all the way to 35 plus years. I always wondered why he never hung or displayed any of them. Now that I'm much older, I realize that he didn't show them off because he never did what he really wanted to, but he did take care of his family, which took priority over his dreams. I don't think that he was ever proud to be a trucker, but he did what he had to do, and he did a great job at it. I'm now an electrical engineer myself, living my dream, and I would not be here if it were not for him doing what he had to do working for Matlack. The reason I'm E-mailing you is to let your Company know what a great employee you had, and to let you know that he has cancer and is not long for this world. If there is anything you guys can do to just let him know that he served you well and that you appreciate it, it sure would mean alot right now..to him, and the family. Thanks for listening to me. This sure means alot to me and I thank you for your time.
